Lagos State Will Enforce Six Month Jail Term For Patronizing Street Hawkers

According to reports..
Following the fall out from an incident where a street hawker was killed in the Maryland axis of
Lagos, the Lagos state government is preparing to take tougher measures.

While speaking to Intercontinental Television, Governor Ambode disclosed that his administration will take a tougher stance on the issue of traffic hawking. So strict, even those patronizing traffic hawkers will face a fine of N90,000 or six months in prison.

Lagos state has a law forbidding hawking in traffic and there will now be more stringent efforts to enforce the law. Traffic hawking is commonplace in Lagos and it is not altogether uncommon to see all sorts of items up for sale whenever there’s a traffic congestion.
