Asian designers gear up for New York fashion week

Alongside an interesting line-up of designers from the western world, a bunch of extremely talented well-known Asian names are also prepping up to dazzle the onlookers with their eclectic creations at the upcoming Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week (NFW), scheduled to be held from February 7-14, 2013.

The opening day of the bi-annual fashion saga will see an array of exclusive Fall/Winter 2013 collections presented by Concept Korea, a government-backed collaboration to promote Korean fashion. Under the aegis of the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, prolific designers like Choi Bo Ko, Kathleen Hanhee Kye, Hongbum Kim, Lie Sang Bong and Son Jung Wang will collaboratively feature their modern global designs.

Prabal Gurung, the Singapore-born and Nepal-raised fashion designer is one of the Asian names to look forward at the forthcoming high-profile event. Favoured by the US First Lady Michelle Obama and The Duchess of Cambridge, the young designer is all set to showcase his latest creations on February 11, 2013 at NFW.

The next in line is New York-based fashion designer of Indian origin Bibhu Mohapatra. The 41-year-old Orisaa-born designer, known for his liberal use of vibrantly coloured sumptuous Indian fabrics, has dressed international celebrities like Hilary Swank, Glenn Close, Kristen Wiig, Elizabeth Moss and Debby Ryan in the past.

Famous for their chic and edgy fusion ensembles, the popular Indian designer duo of Falguni and Shane Peacock will also feature their collections on the penultimate day of the eight-day-long event. The designers have earned a reputation for their traditional elements infused modern creations.
