One of Africa’s celebrated novelist and poet Elechi Amadi is dead.
Amadi died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Port Harcourt Nigeria. Some of the books he has written include; The Concubine, The Great Ponds, The Slave, Dance of Johannesburg, Sunset in Biafra, Peppersoup and the Woman of Calaber.
Amadi was born in 1934 and held a BSc degree in Physics and Mathematics.
In his youth he served in the Nigerian army as a marine commando.
Captain Elechi Amadi as he was famously known was abducted in 2008 but released after a few days.
