8 burnt alive in Zamfara over ‘blasphemy’ ( Viewer Discretion) Photos.

At least eight people were burnt to death by a mob on Monday at Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara, Zamfara state, following alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammed by a student of the college.

The male student was accused of committing blasphemy during an exchange of words with a Muslim friend, resulting in tension at the school.

A student of the university said that when the accused saw the danger to his life, he ran to a house to hide himself.

However, his assailants forcefully gained entrance and set the house ablaze, killing their target and all the seven people inside.

Zamfara state command of the Nigeria police force confirmed the incident, saying it had enforced an indefinite curfew in the town until peace is restored.

Shehu Muhammad, deputy superintendent of police and spokesman of the police in the state, warned the public to respect the curfew, saying violators would be arrested and prosecuted.

The police also called on religious leaders in the state to speak with their followers to embrace peace.

Authorities of the polytechnic closed the institution down with immediate effect, after the incident.
