An Emirates aircraft has crash-landed at the Dubai International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.
“Emirates can confirm that an incident happened at Dubai International Airport on August 3, 2016 at about 12.45pm local time,” the airline said on Twitter.
It confirmed that flight EK521 from the Indian city of Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai was involved in the “accident.” A Boeing 777 operates the route.
“There were 275 passengers and crew on board. Our main priority now is the safety and well-being of all involved,” the airline said.
“We are extending full co-operation to authorities and emergency services managing the situation.”
Meanwhile, the Dubai Media office tweeted that “emergency response teams have been activated and all passengers and crew have been safely evacuated.”
It added: “Concerned Authorities at Dubai International Airport are dealing with the incident at the moment to ensure safety of all.”
According to Flightradar24 all takeoffs and landings at Dubai International Airport have been temporarily suspended.
Pictures on social media showed the aircraft engulfed in a plume of smoke.A source said that the issue was a “landing gear failure” because of which the airline was forced to do a “belly-landing.”
The source also stated that passengers were forced to use the emergency exit, with poor weather conditions hampering rescue efforts.
More details awaited.
