The Police, early Wednesday morning, sealed off the Port-Harcourt venue of the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Donald Awunah, who confirmed the development, during a programme on Channels Television titled, ‘Sunrise Daily’, said: “The warring parties need to follow due process to end their crisis through the courts and as a law enforcement agency what do you do? You ensure that there is a superior court order. It is not about taking sides.
“If in the next one hour or two, we get another court order, we will take action. We are there for every Nigerian but when you are the first responder, you have to take action, you have to be proactive.”
Also confirming the development on phone, the Coordinator of PDP Youth Frontiers, Austin Okai, however, said though the venue was sealed, those with tags were allowed into the premises as at 8: 45am.
“It was sealed, but as we speak, some people with tags are allowed into the premises. I am trying to find my way in now, will get back to you,” he said.
The PDP has been enmeshed in a serious legal battle with two factions laying claim to its leadership.
The Situation has been worsened with conflicting judgements coming from two different Federal High Courts, one in Port Harcourt and the other in Lagos.
