USA Win 31st Olympiad With 118 Medals ….Kenya Emerge Africa’s Best With 13 Medals

 The 31st Olympic Games ended on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with the United States winning the event with a medal haul of 118.
The Americans 43 gold, 37 silver and 38 bronze medals to top the medal table with Great Britain placing second with 27 gold, 22 silver and 17 bronze medals.
China placed third after winning 26 gold, 18 silver and 26 bronze.
The United States have won the Olympics Games 17 times starting from their triumph in Athens in1896, making them the most successful country in the global event. They are also the second most successful country in the winter Olympic Games.


Other countries in the top ten on the Rio Olympics medals table are Russia, Germany, Japan, France, South Korea, Australia and Italy in that order.
Meanwhile, 10 African countries won medals at the Games with Kenya being the best African team, having won six gold, six silver and bronze medals to place 15th on the table.
They are followed by South Africa who won two gold, six silver and one bronze medals and are placed 27th. Ethiopia placed third with a gold, two silver and five bronze medals. The East African country ended on the 43rd position on the table. Cote d’Ivoire are fourth with one gold and one bronze and on the 51st spot on the table.

Algeria are the fifth African country on the medal table with two silver medals. They are followed by Niger Republic, who won one silver and finished on the 69th spot on the medal table.
On the seventh spot is Egypt, who won three bronze medals. They finished 75th. They share the position with neighbours, Tunisia, who also won three bronze medals.
Meanwhile, both Morocco and Nigeria share the 78th position on the medals table and came last among the continent’s medal winners with each winning a bronze.
