28-Year Old Man Shot Dead While Streaming Live On Facebook

A 28-year old Chicago man was shot and killed while live streaming a video on Facebook. Antonio Perkins, 28, was found face down on Wednesday night in a vacant lot with gunshot wounds to the neck and head on the city’s west side, Chicago police officer Laura Amezaga said.

According to witnesses, the victim Antonio laughed and talked with friends as he recorded live footage on the 1600 block of South Drake Avenue in North Lawndale at about 8:45 p.m. where suddenly there was a ring of gunshots nearby. Screaming voices are heard in the background as about a dozen gunshots are heard and the phone drops to the ground. Perkins was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police on Friday identified the man in the video as Perkins, who they said was a documented gang member. However,no arrests have been made.

According to Facebook, the video hasn’t been taken down because it doesn’t violate the company’s community standards. Videos that incite violence are removed, but Facebook concluded that this particular video doesn’t fall into that category. Some disturbing videos posted or shared by users are meant to raise awareness of an issue. Facebook puts a warning on those, instead of removing them.
