Baby Factory in Enugu Raided by Police: 9 Pregnant Ladies Arrested

A baby factory located at Etiti Amankwo Ngwo of 9th mile, Udi local government Area, Enugu, owned and run by one Ikechukwu Onoh was raided on Saturday by the Enugu State Police Command, leading to the arrest of 9 pregnant girls.

A percentage of the young ladies claimed to have been rape victims who had gotten pregnant by their assailants and therefore, could not go home to their parents, leading them to seek shelter in the home.

Spokesperson for Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, released the names of the pregnant young ladies who are between 17-24 years and are helping the police with the investigation when he confirmed the arrest to Daily Post.

“On the part of the owner of the factory, he claimed that he got a provisional approval in October 2007 from ministry of women affairs and social development Enugu State to admit and shelter pregnant women in his hospital called ‘Tex Hospital and maternity home’, and that the hospital is no longer functional, hence he is now running the home from his house.

“He also admitted that under the authority, he was supposed to inform the social development and women affairs within 24hrs of admitting any pregnant woman”.
