Folorunso Alakija is Africa’s most powerful woman 2016

Three Africans have made the 2016 list of 100 most powerful women in the world, joining mainstays on the list such as Germany’s Angela Merkel, USA’s Hilary Clinton and Michelle Obama as well as Christine Lagarde.

Nigeria’s Folorunsho Alakija topped the list of just three African women who were named today as the 100 most powerful women in the world.



Top 3 powerful women in Africa
Folorunsho Alakija: She was ranked 80th on the list of top 100 powerful women in the world by Forbes today, June 6, 2016. The Famfa Oil Vice President successfully switched from the fashion industry to oil as she got involved in one of Nigeria’s largest deepwater discoveries.


Ellen Johnson Sirleaf: Ranked second in Africa behind Alakija and 83rd in the world. She gained influence for successfully negotiating settlements, rebuilding infrastructure and lifting sanctions as President after the Liberia civil war.


Ameenah Gurib–Fakim: The third and final African on the world 100 powerful women list is a former biodiversity scientist who as president of Mauritius is recognized for her work to advance awareness of global warming. She ranked 96 on the list.
