Rita Ora Signs Worldwide Deal With Atlantic Records UK

Rita Ora signed a worldwide recording contract with Atlantic Records UK on Monday (June 20). The British singer’s new contract comes almost two weeks after her departure from Roc Nation was reported on June 8.

“First and foremost she’s a great singer who’s hugely passionate about music and I’m delighted to welcome her to Atlantic Records,” said Atlantic Records UK President Ben Cook, who also represents Ed Sheeran, Birdy and Marina and the Diamonds. “We look forward to getting in the studio with her and making an incredible album.”

Ora hasn't released an album since her 2012 debut. The artist announced back in September while performing at New York's Irving Plaza that fans could look for a second album by November, though complications with her previous label likely delayed her. In December 2015, Ora filed a lawsuit against Roc Nation seeking departure from the label as her contract violated California law due to the “seven-year rule” and claims she had been “orphaned” by the label.

In late January 2016, Roc Nation filed a counter-complaint against Ora calling for the return of $2.3 million in promotions and damages on the four remaining records in her then contract. The singer and label finally parted ways in early June with a settlement.

With her new contract, Ora looks forward to going forth in her music career. “The next chapter is going to be incredible!” she said via Instagram.
