Kegbe, an indigene of Arogbo in Ese Odo area of the state, was arrested by the operatives at Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area on Wednesday.
It would be recalled that barely a week after the Police paraded pipeline vandals and kidnappers who fled Lagos following raid on their hideouts by operatives of the federal government’s Joint Military Task Force, armed men on September 17 kidnapped nine landlords at Isheri, Ogun State..
The landlords were having a routine exercise beside Lekki Gardens Estate when the gang struck.
The kidnappers had demanded N300 million ransom on each of them, totalling N1.2 billion, before they could be freed and they had reportedly called family members of their victims a day after they were kidnapped, to make the demand, threatening to harm the landlords if the condition was not met.
Recall also that one of the landlords kidnapped escaped from the kidnappers’ den about a week ago. he was said to have escaped from their midst because no ransom was paid.
Recent development, however, has it that the suspect, Kegbe, who was nabbed in connection with the kidnap, confessed to have collected the N12 million ransom from the family members before freeing the victims.
He was arrested where he went to spend his share of his ransom.
In his confession while being paraded before newsmen on Wednesday, Kegbe mentioned the names of some of his gang members.
“Trust, Julious, Victor, Prince, John and ‘Senior man’ were involved in the operation,” he added.
Meanwhile, the other members of the gang are still at large.
The IGP team, however, said efforts were ongoing to arrest and prosecute them accordingly.
