Brad Pitt admitted to 'making mistakes' as a parent and Angelina Jolie called him 'the bad cop'

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's parenting styles have been speculated to be the reason for the couple's shock split and in the past they've discussed their differing parenting styles.
Angelina and Brad's six children – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Knox, Vivienne and Shiloh - were heavily featured in the couple's separate statement about the split, sparking speculation that this was one of the big causes behind the break up after 12 years together.
“Angelina will always do what's in the best interest of taking care of her children,” her manager told E! News in a statement.

“She appreciates everyone's understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”

While Brad issued a statement, which read: "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids.
I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."Brad and Angelina with Shiloh, Vivienne, Maddox, Knox and Zahara

Just last year 52-year-old Brad admitted that he was tougher that wife Angelina on the children.

“I am [the disciplinarian] with the boys. Girls do no wrong, so I don't have to be,” he told The Telegraph in November 2015.

“I feel like my job is to show 'em around, help them find what they want to do with their life, put as many things in front of them, and pull them back when they get out of line, so they know who they are.”

While speaking back in March 2012, Angelina said that it had been a role reversal for the couple.
“I used to be the tougher parent but since the birth of the twins, Brad's had to play bad cop more often,” she told OK! Magazine.Angelina Jolie has cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for wanting to divorce Brad Pitt and court documents list their separation date as September 15, 2016

“It also depends on which of the children we're talking about...I think I'm a little closer to the girls, maybe, but he's always making them laugh.”

Brad also told People that he didn't always get it right as a father.
Angelina, who filed for divorce on Monday, previously praised her then-husband and their differing styles.

“He loves being a father and that's one thing I'm most proud of about him. With a large family, you need that support,” the By The Sea actress told The Mirror in March 2014.Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

“Brad is a wonderful teacher and guide, for the boys in particular. He likes to plan things and proceed in a very deliberate and methodical way. He is much cooler and calmer...I can be more impulsive and outspoken.”

“Not [like I'm] a horrible parent, but I've certainly made mistakes and had to make up for it,” he said in 2011.Angelina is demanding custody of her and Brad Pitt's children amid claims she has become increasingly worried about the actor’s strict parenting skills.

The move came after sources close to the actress claimed she had been left furious by the way “Brad was parenting the children,” adding “she was extremely upset with his methods.”

The Tomb Raider star is also alleged to have became “fed up” with his use of weed and possibly alcohol, a mix she believes led to an “an anger problem”.

According to reports in the US, however, the final straw came after Jolie was forced to hire a private investigator to follow her husband over concerns he was cheating on her with the co-star of his latest film Allied, French actress Marion Cotillard.

Lawyers for the actress confirmed she had filed papers on Monday citing irreconcilable differences.
