Zambia Threatens to Crush Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup Dream

The President of the Football Association of Zambia, Andrew Kamanga has declared that qualifying to the 2018 World Cup after failing to pick a ticket for the 2017 Africa Cup is the primary target for his country and they’ll leave no stone unturned in achieving it.

The Chipolopolo have been drawn in a qualifying ‘group of death’ that also features former African champions Nigeria, Algeria and Cameroon, but Kamanga fancies their chances of coming out tops, Vanguard reports.

In a recent interview, Kamanga praised caretaker coach George Lwandamina, stating that preparations for the World Cup qualifiers which kickoff with a potentially bruising encounter against Nigeria October 3, would begin with him.

“The current coach has done a good job thus far even at his club, so even if the new coach doesn’t come, it changes nothing. We have to prepare well, plan and that’s where we come in as an association, so, either way we have to be ready,” Kamanga said.

“It’s an ambitious target after failing to qualify to the Africa Cup but we can qualify with hard work.”

He called on his countrymen to give total support to the team as they cannot afford to be pessimistic in such a trying time.

“We can’t afford to do that, we can’t lose hope before the first game is played. The players have the belief, the coaches have the belief, why should we doubt?” he asks.

Zambia are seeking a first World Cup appearance while their Group B opponents are veterans of the Mundial.
